The lesson is based on an idea in New Zealand for the law that prohibts the sale of cigarettes. Use this lesson to discuss the addiction, the ban and  its consequences for the addict, but also for the whole country. A short piece of news is packed with useful vocabulary, which can be practiced in definition matching and question discussion. Optionally, you can use a video with statistics in the UK and practice listening for details. If your students are still willing to talk after that – make them assess different methods to discourage young people from smoking. A necessary lesson – both in the social and the linguistic sense.
