What’s your comfort food?

Lesson overview

There is no better topic to break the ice than the food. Do you know anyone who hates food? Me neither. So here comes the comfort food lesson, with stews, soups, ramen and dumplings. Don’t start it hungry – it’s dangerous!

In this lesson, students:

  • describe feelings after eating different types of food
  • describe their food preferences
  • get to know the term comfort food and its examples from all over the world
  • present their national ideas for comfort food

Vocabulary and discussion

Your students can warm up by describing photos – even less advanced will manage to tell you something. Then, a this or that to discuss preferences. A short text about comfort food followed by engaging questions – a lot of culinary inspiration to be gathered after this one. There is more speaking in the last part – analysis of three typical comfort foods from around the world and presentation of the student’s comfort food. Enjoy!
