Reading and vocabulary

If your students’ goal is to speak better and better and be one of the best in the group, show them the cheat sheet. The more examples they read and practice, the richer their language becomes. They will finally understand that comparisons are more than just sticking -er or -est to adjectives. The practice part is immediately engaging – gapped sentences are used to have a heated discussion. Transformations help the students understand how to convey the same meaning with a different comparative phrase. Later, they can check their knowledge in a text comparing the UK and Italy. Would you like something more personal? Let your students compare two cities or countries of their choice (with prompts to help with vocabulary). Therefore, we would recommend this topic in the Travel Unit. To practice speaking in more open-ended tasks, put your students in the role of a shop assistant in a furniture shop or discuss interesting (or sometimes controversial!) questions.
