Lesson overview

In this lesson, students:

  • discuss an article on a health information website
  • learn new intermediate vocabulary about health (e.g. contagious, soothe, remedy)
  • disprove common health myths

Reading and vocabulary

Old wives’ tales about health are still alive – and your students should have something to say about them. Discuss the definition of an old wives’ tale and the experiences of students with it. Before the lesson assign the article as homework or have the students read it during the class and comment on the health myths they recognise. Practice more intermediate vocabulary about health and illnesses in sentences (e.g. contagious, soothe, remedy). Reading the article is recommended but vocabulary exercises can be done without it.
