Vocabulary and listening

Having some mountain lovers in the group? An inspirational and engaging lesson for hikers, willing to share their experience from trails. We offer you a full Lesson Brick with a warm-up discussion with questions about adventures from the mountains, leading to vocabulary exercise to check understanding of words and phrases connected to hiking (i.e elevation gain, altitude, itinerary), followed by questions to use the words in their own stories. To sum up the topic, students can watch an authentic video of a hiker talking about her preparations for a day hike. You can also check students’ understanding in gapped sentences. Ask your students to elaborate on the tips and add their own ideas. Later, you can find a high-involvement task – dealing with a certain scenario, where your students have to create a plan for a hike. Last but not least, your students talk about aspects necessary to be a good hiker.

We hope that the lesson will inspire and motivate your students to go hiking!
